i make. you wear it. began as a creative outlet for self-confessed sewing addict, Rachel Burke. In 2012, Rachel thought she’d put her passion to good use, making a dress every day for en entire year. The project proved a success when she managed to raise over $5,000 for the Starlight Children’s Foundation and make 365 dresses in the process.
Rachel is currently working as the Senior Womenswear Designer at Universal Store, fashion editorial stylist for Frankie Magazine, and as the DIY blogger for BONDS Australia.
Etsy Craft Party 2016 is on from 17th to 19th June. You can join the fun by organising a creative event or starting a project you’ve always dreamed of — really, anything goes! They just ask one thing: make sure you share on social media with#EtsyCraftParty and @etsyau so fellow craft partiers can revel in your creative glory.
To get you inspired, we’ve got a fun DIY from Rachel Burke (a fellow crafter) on making little paper party flower hats:
You will need
- Patty cakes cases
- Green Cardboard
- Pink Cardboard
- Mini white sticky dots
- Pink pipe cleaners
- Hot glue gun/glue
Take your piece of cardboard and bend it to make a cone shape then glue down the fold.
Trim the excess cardboard to make your petite party hat shape.
Then you are ready to start decorating your party hat base!
Begin by squeezing some hot glue along the edge of your party hat. Then glue your pipe cleaner in place to create a dreamy trim.
To make your paper flowers take a patty cake case and fold it in half.
Then twist the base to make it look like a flower.
Repeat the process to make a small bunch and then secure with some hot glue.
Glue onto your hat, and continue repeating the process until it is decorated as you like.
Cut out some leaves and glue them on!
Once decorated with flowers and leaves, you are ready to smatter your hat with the little stickers!
Either use as a cute table decoration, or if you’d like to wear it, just hot glue it onto a hair slide!
