Public voting is currently underway for the 2016 Etsy Awards. In light of this we are lucky to have the 2015 Community’s Choice winner Sonia Singh of Tree Change Dolls guest blogging over the next few weeks. In this first post Sonia shares some key tips to social media success as an Etsy Awards Finalist.
Sonia Singh is a Tasmanian artist who reinvents discarded fashion dolls by giving them a new, down-to-Earth style. She shared pictures of her dolls online in January of this year, after which the concept quickly went viral and she was shot into headlines worldwide. In February she opened her Etsy shop and has since inspired countless children, parents and craft enthusiasts, triggering a `Tree Change Movement` and encouraging others to re-style their old toys and to take them on outdoor adventures.
“Hi everyone! Public voting is now open for this year’s Etsy Awards. As a previous recipient of the Community’s Choice Award I just want to give sellers a few tips on how to make the most of the public voting phase, how to get the word out there and get some votes coming in.”
- Make sure you post to all your social media networks, letting your followers know you have been selected as a finalist and are in the running for the Community’s Choice Award. Yay! When asked people to vote for you make sure you provide a direct link to the voting page to make it as easy as possible!
- Remember that every post does not necessarily reach all of your followers, so it helps to post regularly during the voting period, as each post is likely to reach a different group of followers. So that it is not repetitive for those who do receive multiple posts, make sure each post is engaging and unique, and features something new of interest – your latest shop item, some new photographs, or a ‘thank you for voting’ picture.
- Share your values and your ethical commitments to making the world a better place. Many of my followers support my Etsy shop because of the values and ideals behind what I do – whether it’s recycling, my donations to women’s rights organisations, or my willingness to share my DIY tips. If people share your values and your desire to make a positive difference in the world, they will happily vote to help you succeed.
It doesn’t have to be all about social media. Don’t forget to share the news with all your family and friends – Every vote helps!
Good luck to all this year’s amazing Etsy Awards finalists! It’s inspiring to see such creativity and craftsmanship which is something to be shared and celebrated!
All the best, Sonia Singh from Tree Change Dolls
