The inaugural Etsy Design Awards are open for entries.

Australian Etsy sellers with active Etsy shops can enter to win a trip to Etsy’s headquarters in Brooklyn, New York, and be featured in the December issue of Inside Out.

The Awards have been created to recognise excellence in creativity, something there is an abundance of on Etsy.

They’ll be judged by leading creative talent including Editor-in-Chief of Inside Out Claire Bradley; interior stylist, author, and blogger Jason Grant; creative business mentor, singer, and actress Clare Bowditch; and Etsy’s Creative Director, International, Julia Hoffman.

Browse the categories, the prizes and full terms and conditions here.

The deadline for entries is 12 September, 2014 so get in quick and tell your friends!

Hi there. Is there a bug with the date field in the entry form? I am submitting the US date format (as requested in the form) of 11-19-2009 for my shop opening date, but when I go to submit, it asks me to add a date. thanks in advance for the assistance, Jasmine

Just figured it out - instead of using the MM-DD-YYYY as the form field suggests, you need to use MM/DD/YYYY

It's a shame so many categories aren't eligible to enter.

Hello. I just received an email from Etsy Australia and New Zealand announcing the Etsy Design awards. You can imagine my excitement, and then disappointment ,when I realized as a NZ store we were not eligible to enter. Please can you allow New Zealand entries too. We are under the same Etsy grouping of Australia and New Zealand after all, pretty please. I'm sure any NZ designers would be happy to get themselves to Australia if need be.

This is going to be an interesting Christmas! I wonder if it's possible to enter different categories through different shops? I have two shops that may qualify for different categories. I hope this isn't against the rule? And yes, and regarding Davina's inquiry about entering multiple times with different items. Cheers!

Hi guys! I've noticed in the "please describe yourself and your item" it says a maximum of 200 words, but it is stopping letting you type any more than about 40 words. Might be a bug - or at least on mine (or a Mac?!) - would be great to know when this has been fixed. Cheers, Jess.

As a Vintage seller I guess I don't qualify anyway, but I know that NZ Etsy designers are up there with the best. Please make space for them in the competition.

Hello Yes, you are welcome to enter multiple categories, as long as your items fulfill the criteria for each Award you enter. However, you may only enter one item per category. Make sure you fill in the entry form for each Award separately. for more information visit etsydesignawards.com and read the T and C's and FAQ. As always please do let us know if you have any other questions.

Hi I note that in the entry criteria it mentions the item must be listed in your shop from entry date to 30 dec. What happens if it sells? Also, on the entry criteria page it doesn't mention the trip to NY in what the winner will receive (Home and living award)?

  • KirsteeneETSYAUS Admin

Kirsteene Phelan from EtsyAU said 5 years ago

Hi Denise If your items sells during the Awards period - congratulations! Your submission will still be valid. If you have multiple quantities of the item, we suggest that you continue replenish any sold listings submitted until the winners are announced. The major prizes will be awarded to the winner of the Community's choice Award. You can find out more info about that award here http://etsydesignawards.com/entry-criteria#community-choice

Hi, all items in my shop will be unique, and I won't be able to replenish the same item if sold. Will my submission still be valid for the item? Thanks for your help.

  • KirsteeneETSYAUS Admin

Kirsteene Phelan from EtsyAU said 5 years ago

Hi Yiying Lee, Yes, one-of-a-kind items are eligible. If your item sells during the Awards, first off, congratulations! Secondly, don't worry. Your submission will still be valid. If you have multiple quantities of the item, we suggest that you continue to replenish any sold listings submitted until the winners are announced.

I think I've officially (unintentionally entered a gazillion times) sorry in advance. I'm wondering if anyone else is hitting a road block for entering with the date? Despite entering 11-01-2008 (as when my shop opened) I get "Please enter a date" and it seems my entry wont process? Thanks for any help!

Kirsteene Phelan from EtsyAU said 5 years ago

hi Fee, try this; instead of using the MM-DD-YYYY as the form field suggests, you need to use MM/DD/YYYY. KP

last minute question! I've read somewhere that you can only enter one item per category. Does that mean one item in the Home & Living category? Or one item in the Journal, done item in the stationery and one item in the greeting cards category which are three sub categories within the H&L category. Can you advise asap? I have entries ready to go & want to be clear about how many I can enter. thanks Martine

Has anyone else noticed that the categories that are listed in the `easy design awards e.g. Home and Living, don't match the actual categories in easy itself? Im trying to enter in Home and Living > Startionery and Party > journal BUT in etsy, when `i create a listing my only option is Papergoods > journal HELP! I don't want to be disqualified on a technicality of the category taxonomy being different in easy and in the award categories
